K.A.R.
There are moments in life where you have to take a step back, take a deep breath, and just be thankful for where you are. Castiglion Fiorentino is a wonderful small city with an absolutely stunning landscape that never seizes to amaze me. Castiglion has given me such a wonderful beginning to my exploration of Italy and I find myself not being able to fully describe the pure joy it provides me. The window overlooking the valley is quite literally one of the most beautiful morning views that one could ever ask for.
We started the first of many excursions through Tuscany within the first days of our journey. Florence is one of the most historically influential
cities that we visited during our first week of our stay. The city radiates a beautiful, mighty, and magnificent sense of power that seems to echo timelessly from the 1400's into present time. Florence gave me a feeling that I never had before; and that is to have a first hand perception of what millions of people around the globe have had the opportunity of experiencing.
The story book ending to our first week in Italy was showcased by a spectacular medieval firework celebration done Castiglion Fiorentino style. The festival was drowned with cheap red wine, easy carnival style games ( in which cheap wine was the prize), and live performances. The tempo of the festival was kept alive through the energy of the bands playing music with a medieval twist. As it became closer to midnight, one of the most entertaining firework displays began to explode Castiglion Fiorentino into an exciting and lively ending to what was one of the most memorable weeks of my life.
